Trolleys and trucks to move heavy garden items
Trolleys and trucks to help you move heavy garden items safely.
Handling heavy loads can leave you susceptible to injury. There are several things you can do to reduce the chances of harming yourself:
•Before you start trying to move heavy objects, check if they can be broken up into smaller loads and check for sharp edges.
•Wear sturdy boots with non-slip soles and gloves with good grips. Wear suitable clothing – your clothes should allow you to move freely without getting in the way.
•If you can, avoid lifts above your shoulders and below your knees because these put extra strain on your back.
•Don’t twist or turn sideways – keep your body squarely over your hips, and begin the move by using your leg muscles.
•Take regular breaks.
•If you’re using a barrow or trolley then do not overload it. Take special care on slopes.
Remember: Always lift with your legs and not your back. And never lift heavy items when you are alone in the garden, in case you fall or have an accident. If something is too heavy to lift, get help. Clear the path before you start if you are carrying something so you don’t trip or fall.
