Leggy cytisus battandieri

Q: My five-year-old Cytisus battandieri has grown leggy. Can
I prune it and if so when and how?

A: Prune this late-summer flowering species as hard as you like, Alan. March is the best time since it allows time for new stems to mature and perhaps to flower. If you prune now, you’ll do no harm but you might sacrifice this year’s blossom.
