Pruning a vigorous fuchsia

When and how do I prune fuchsia ‘Lady Boothby’?

Although fuchsia ‘Lady Boothby’ is often sold as a climbing fuchsia, it is really just a very vigorous hardy fuchsia. How you prune it depends on how tall you want it to grow. For a plant that will reach about 1.5-1.8m (5-6ft), prune it back hard in early spring to about 10cm (4in) from the base of the plant, cutting just above a healthy bud.
For a taller plant, prune at the same time of year but just remove any weak or straggly stems and cut each shoot back to the nearest strong bud. Make sure that you do not prune in frosty conditions.
