Use Enviromesh to combat leek moth
I’ve had problems with leek moth and wonder if the enclosed mesh sample would be small enough to keep them off the crop.
Q: I’ve had problems with leek moth and wonder if the enclosed mesh sample would be small enough to keep them off the crop.
A: The sample you sent was a durable 7mm (1⁄4in) mesh. I doubt if it would be small enough to deter any but the larger insects, and is probably best-suited to keeping birds or cabbage white butterflies off crops. Even then, the net would need to be well clear of the leaves, so that the butterflies could not lay eggs through the mesh.
Enviromesh would be a better all-round product for leek moth, not to mention carrot fly, pea moth and so on. This is lightweight and very fine. If handled with care, it can be re-used and is said to last for up to 10 years.
