Flatworms in the house!
Has anyone ever asked you about the problem of New Zealand flatworms coming into the house? If you leave a door open, when it’s wet, they come in and seem attracted to carpets. My neighbour found three curled in a ball behind the settee!
A: This is a new one, to me. I’ve never seen a New Zealand flatworm in my garden, yet, let alone in the house! But the idea is pretty revolting, since these unappealing creatures are usually found curled up in their own slime!
Rather then being attracted to the carpet, they are more likely to have simply blundered their way inside passing under the door.
They are predatory, living almost exclusively on earthworms and derive no benefit from coming into the house. Once there, they would have curled up, covered themselves with mucus, and waited for conditions to change. They would do no harm indoors, but are not something you’d want to discover under the sofa or behind the fridge!
