Wind chimes are the most hated garden accessory
Wind chimes are the nation’s most hated garden accessory with homeowners claiming they’re the height of bad taste, ‘chavvy’, annoying and unnecessary, a survey has revealed.
Runner-up in the poll, carried out online by www.OnePoll.com, were caravans parked in driveways ‘because they lowered the tone’ of the neighbourhood.
Also guaranteed to upset the neighbours are children’s swings, giant trampolines and garden gnomes along with hot tubs, water fountains and solar lights.
The survey revealed that one in five householders believe a neighbour’s house ruins the overall appearance of the street and four out of five said they prefer to see well manicured gardens rather than lawns strewn with kids’ playthings.
Even barbecues earned the wrath of householders with many people admitting they found smoke drifting over the fence a major bugbear.
