New Iris varieties coming soon
A French firm is launching 14 new iris varieties this year which will be available to gardeners here from March 10.
The Irises are long flowering, wind-resistant blooms that only need minimal watering.
The man behind them is Richard Cayeux who is recognised as one of Europe’s leading iris hybridisers and has been creating new varieties for nearly 30 years, following in his family’s footsteps who have been cultivating and hybridising for more than a century.
New tall bearded irises include ‘Echassier’ pale yellow standards and lavender-white falls with golden beards extended by a long, white lavender-tipped spur (£12.60); ‘Eclipse de Mai’ a two-tone violet with dark violet standards and very wide, gracefully waved falls between black and violet with black-violet beards (£19.80); ‘Impressions de Jouy’ white standards flushed with lavender, purple falls with a wide, white centre around a bright red beard (£13.50); ‘Jacques Coeur’ soft yellow standard and falls, wide, raspberry red border (£16.65).
The firm is based in France but varieties can be bought online at www.iris-cayeux
